Thomas Sits for Second Game In Row

June 09, 1997|Associated Press

The Chicago White Sox played for the second consecutive day without first baseman Frank Thomas.

The American League's leading hitter, Thomas is hampered by a strained stomach muscle, and Chicago has scored only two runs in going 1-1 without him.

Thomas is day-to-day.

Oakland third baseman Scott Spiezio was a late scratch because of a sore right hand Sunday against Toronto. Spiezio had been the only Athletic player to appear in every game.
