The mother of a Compton high school student killed by gang cross-fire in January presented college scholarships to 12 of her daughter's classmates during Wednesday's graduation ceremonies at Centennial High School.
Loretta Thomas-Davis, one of three panelists to select the award recipients, gave out $4,300 in grants. The money came from nationwide contributions to a scholarship fund set up after her 17-year-old daughter, Corie Williams, was shot aboard a bus Jan. 16.
