Mayor Robert T. Bartlett has been hired by the city of Rialto as its economic and redevelopment director.
Bartlett, known as "Mr. Monrovia" around his hometown, starts his new $90,000-a-year job Monday after working for seven years with Viking Freight. He will oversee a $1-million budget for redevelopment and housing in the Inland Empire city.
"There are a number of similarities between Monrovia and Rialto," said City Administrator Joe Guzzetta, after Bartlett's confirmation by the Rialto City Council.
It was Bartlett's experience as a six-term mayor in Monrovia that won him the job, Rialto officials said. As mayor he has helped secure businesses such as Office Depot, Computer USA, developed low-to-moderate income housing projects and revitalized its Old Town.
