THE TIMES 1997 FALL ALL-COUNTY TEAMS

JENNIFER CAREY

Setter, Newport Harbor, Jr.

Could dominate a match with her setting, blocking, hitting or defense. Led a team with only two seniors to the Southern Section Division I-AA title. Displays a rare combination of size and agility at the position.

AMY KNEBEL

Opposite, Ocean View, Sr.

Named Southern Section Division III MVP and state Division III tournament MVP, helping the Seahawks win the school's first section and state championships. Six-foot left-hander has committed to Rhode Island.

TRACY LINDQUIST

Setter, Ocean View, Jr.

Led a balanced attack, which helped Ocean View win the Orange County Championships then section and state titles. A great defensive player. Also used her quickness to turn bad passes into good sets.

KIKI MAROUTSOS

Middle blocker, Santa Margarita, Sr.

Played through injuries and helped Santa Margarita win its second consecutive section title and reach the school's first state final. Solid all-around player. Has orally committed to Washington.

CHANDA McLEOD

Opposite, Marina, Jr.

Hard-hitting junior showed full repertoire of shots during the playoffs. Was the team's most consistent offensive player in playoffs. Left-hander also had one of the county's best jump serves.

LINDSAY PHILLIPS

Outside hitter, Marina, Sr.

County's most dynamic offensive player. Has committed to Pepperdine. Powerful spikes drew the most attention. Good defense also helped Marina win its first section and state titles.

DARRICK LUCERO

Coach of the Year, Marina

Second-year coach. Took a team that finished fourth in the Sunset League last season and missed the playoffs, then preached defense and togetherness to help mold the unit into a section and state Division I champion.

Michelle Chambers Santa Margarita, Sr.

Outside hitter

Has committed to Stanford.

Amy DeCinces, Mater Dei, Sr.

Opposite

Helped Mater Dei to best finish in school history.

Jordana Havriluk, Corona del Mar, Sr.

Outside hitter

Led Sea Kings to section Division III-AA title.

Melissa Plass, Fountain Valley, Sr.

Setter

All-around talent named Sunset League co-MVP.

Top offensive player for Division I-AA champs.
