Fine, Community Service for False Rape Report
A Mission Viejo woman who admitted she lied about being raped at Crystal Court shopping center to cover up an extramarital affair was sentenced to 150 hours of community service and fined $100, according to police and court records.
Lana Rana Kling, 22, entered her plea Monday in Municipal Court in Newport Beach and was sentenced by Judge Frances Munoz, a court clerk said.
Kling had told police she was forced into her car by a man wearing dark sunglasses on the night of Feb. 3 and raped in the underground parking garage, police said.
During questioning, police said the woman’s story began to unravel. Investigating an anonymous tip, police said they determined that Kling was never at Crystal Court on the night of the alleged rape but had been at a co-worker’s apartment in Santa Ana.
Detectives asked the Orange County district attorney’s office to charge the woman with filing a false report.
