Opportunities for Volunteering

Volunteers, parents and tutors are invited to the Los Angeles Unified School District Summer Volunteer Training Program from Monday to Aug. 22 at Riverside Drive Elementary School, 13061 Riverside Drive, Sherman Oaks. Daily classes will be held on tutoring children in art, math and reading, as well as in creating learning games and other ways of helping the classroom teacher. Parents can learn how to tutor their children. The classes are held from 8 to 10:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is free.

Heal the Bay, an environmental group, is holding a volunteer orientation session Monday at the Heal the Bay office. Call (310) 581-4188, Ext. 137, for more information. A fund-raising volleyball tournament for the organization is planned for July 19 at Will Rogers State Beach, south of Temescal Canyon Road, Pacific Palisades.
