July 25, 1997| Associated Press

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — NASA announced that it has set Aug. 7 as the launch date for its next space shuttle flight, a science mission by Discovery. During the 11-day flight, the U.S.-Canadian crew will release and retrieve an atmospheric-research satellite, observe the Hale-Bopp comet with an ultraviolet telescope and test a short robot arm that's similar to what will be used by the Japanese on the future international space station.
