Reward Offered in Stabbing Investigation

November 12, 1997|STEVE CARNEY

La Habra is offering a $15,000 reward to jump-start the stalled murder investigation of a 31-year-old man who was stabbed June 12.

Philip Chavez was returning from work to his home at 920 Park Way about 11 p.m., police said. Neighbors heard yelling and saw two to four men attack Chavez, who later died at UC Irvine Medical Center, police said.

The reward offer, good for six months, is for information leading directly to the arrest and conviction of Chavez's killers.

"Right now we're hoping somebody can come forward with something, a fresh lead we can go off on," Police Det. Daniel Barnes said. "We've gone through a lot of leads. We need to get some further evidence to arrest somebody."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Barnes at (562) 905-9683, or the La Habra Crime Tip Line, (562) 905-9611.
