More than 100 business owners and city and county officials turned out Thursday morning to celebrate the completion of a parking garage and street improvements in Westwood Village.
The opening of a 366-space parking structure in the 1000 block of Broxton Avenue is a step toward revitalizing Westwood, said Daniel Hinerfeld, a deputy to City Councilman Mike Feuer, whose 5th District includes Westwood.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Feuer and attended by county Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, local business owners and city officials. Ed Edelman, the former 5th District councilman who oversaw the city's purchase of the land in 1970, also was present.
Construction on the $9.5-million parking structure began in 1996, and was designed with the help of UCLA's Capital Programs Division, Hinerfeld said. The street level of the structure contains retail space, he said, but leases with retail tenants have not been signed.
