Valley Torah High to Recognize Couple
When Dr. Robert and Lilli Kahn-Rose were invited to dinner with a rabbi from their son’s school, they could think only one thing–the kid was in big trouble.
Instead, Rabbi Aryeh Striks delivered good news–the Kahn-Roses had been selected to receive one of the school’s highest awards for dedicated service to the Jewish community.
“You could imagine our surprise,” said Robert Kahn-Rose. “Here we thought our child was in trouble, so much so that our rabbi had to invite us to dinner. And then we get this award. What a relief.”
On Tuesday, the Kahn-Roses will receive a plaque from Valley Torah High School, the only Orthodox Jewish school in the Valley. The award ceremony will be part of a fund-raising dinner for Valley Torah’s boys and girls schools.
Of the 120 students at the school, 70 receive scholarship money to help pay the $8,000 annual tuition fee, said Striks, the school’s director of development.
The award traditionally goes to a couple who exemplify the school’s values–dedication to the Jewish religion and community and volunteer work.
The Kahn-Roses belong to a number of volunteer groups, including at the school and their synagogue, Shaarey Zedek, in Valley Village. The couple have four children, two at Valley Torah.
Robert Kahn-Rose is the medical director of psychiatric services and vice chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Northridge Hospital–Sherman Way Campus.
Lilli Kahn-Rose is co-president of the Valley Torah parent-teacher association.
The school will also honor this year’s recipients of its Alumni Award, Motti and Dalia Meisels. Motti Meisels is the school’s boys varsity basketball coach.
