MOORPARK — A 13-year-old boy was in critical condition Sunday night after he and a friend crashed their motorcycles head-on while riding on a dirt road north of Moorpark.

The crash happened Sunday on Gabbert Road.

A team from the Ventura County Fire Department was called to help the boys, who were found shortly after noon.

"When I arrived, they were both on the ground," said Rob Rolfe, a paramedic with American Medical Response. "They both were in full leathers and pads, and they were wearing helmets."

The younger boy, 9, broke both arms in the crash and suffered a minor head injury, Rolfe said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was airlifted by a Sheriff's Department helicopter to Simi Valley Hospital.

Authorities said that boy was in good condition.

The other boy, K.C. Oxford was airlifted to Columbia Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks with a broken left leg and internal chest trauma, Rolfe said.

On Sunday night, he was listed in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.
