Long Beach Millikan turned two errant snaps by Santa Ana into scores en route to a 21-0 victory over the visiting Saints Friday night.
Forced to punt on fourth and five from its 44, Santa Ana's (0-4) first bad snap gave Millikan (2-2) the ball on the Saints' 14. Two plays later, the Rams took a 7-0 lead on a four-yard run by Paul Ier. Ier rushed for a game-high 84 yards in 17 carries.
With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Santa Ana's second errant snap sailed out of the end zone for a safety, giving Millikan a 9-0 halftime lead.
The scoreless third quarter was delayed 25 minutes as paramedics took precautionary measures for injured Santa Ana lineman Edson Godinez.
Godinez suffered back and neck injuries blocking for Chris Weaver's 22-yard reverse. Godinez was taken to Long Beach Community hospital, but left in the ambulance with full use of all extremities. A hospital representative said the player was not badly hurt, and might not be held for observation.
Santa Ana's Weaver was the bright star in the Saints' (0-4) loss, rushing for 81 yards in seven carries and catching two passes for 30 yards.
Millikan closed the scoring in the fourth quarter, when Michael Aguirre completed a pass to Mark Wells, setting up Aguirre's scoring run and a 21-0 lead.
