Suspected Car Burglar Arrested After Chase

September 09, 1997|JOHN CANALIS

Two men suspected of stealing car radios along Logan Street led police on a 10-minute chase Monday through Costa Mesa, Santa Ana and Tustin, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call from a business owner that two men were breaking into vehicles parked on Logan, Lt. Ron Smith said. When police arrived, the suspects fled in an Isuzu Amigo.

During the chase, one of the suspects jumped from the sport-utility vehicle on Baker Street with a car radio in hand and escaped, police said. Officers pursued the driver, who was arrested about 5:25 a.m. near his Alliance Avenue home in Tustin, Smith said.

George Alpert Gutierrez, 29, was charged with three counts of car vehicle burglary, Smith said. He was being held in Costa Mesa Jail on $25,000 bail and is to be arraigned today.

The second man remained at large late Monday. No one was hurt in the chase, officials said.
