1996 in Review

Rancho Alamitos was the favorite to win it all after an undefeated regular season, but upstart Pacifica, which finished fourth in the Garden Grove League, earning an at-large berth with a 7-3 record, stunned the second-seeded Vaqueros with a 21-6 semifinal victory.

The Mariners went on to lose in the championship game to Aliso Niguel, 32-21, but not after proving to everyone that the Garden Grove League has teams to be reckoned with. The Mariners knocked off third-seeded Laguna Hills in the first round, 17-13.

Rancho Alamitos, which easily won the league title, looked as though its run would continue through the playoffs, defeating Bellflower, 50-21, and Sunny Hills, 21-0, before falling to Pacifica.

Los Amigos, which finished second in league with only a loss to Rancho Alamitos, was ousted in the first round by Troy, 20-16. Santiago lost to La Mirada in the first round, 28-6.

Bolsa Grande (2-4), Garden Grove (1-5) and La Quinta (0-6) rounded out the rest of league.
