College May Soon Rent Out Videoconferencing Center

September 11, 1997

A new 110-seat videoconferencing auditorium at Cerritos College may not transmit any classes until next semester, but the $500,000 project could be available for rental by private groups next month, officials at the Norwalk campus said Wednesday.

The project, funded mostly by a grant from the state Department of Energy, is expected to feature a 10-foot-by-10-foot video monitor, an overhead document-enhancing camera and microphones at each seat in the stadium. A separate, smaller videoconferencing room also is being built.

Project manager Carlos Rodriguez said the facility, located next to the main campus library, will allow the college to offer classes and broadcast seminars to remote locations, as well as allow members of the community to transmit live audio and visual signals to distant groups.
