Program to Create Performance Venues

September 13, 1997|HILARY E. MacGREGOR

Aiming to increase cultural activities in downtown Ventura, the city's office of cultural affairs is seeking proposals from nonprofit organizations that want to stage performances downtown.

The search is part of a new city program, known as the Downtown Ventura Cultural Facilities Assistance Program, set up to help performing arts groups establish alternative performance-art venues downtown.

The city has set aside $4,000 for the program to establish these venues.

The grants may be used for rental fees or equipment necessary to transform a space into a performance venue.

Recipients must match the grants with the same amount of their own money.

Those interested in applying should contact Elena Brokaw at (805) 658-4755 for more information.

Proposals are due by Oct. 23.
