Monroe 41, Hoover 14--George Garcia rushed for 215 yards and five touchdowns in 15 carries and backfield mate Vinny Walker gained 193 yards in 18 carries for the Vikings at Hoover.

From a wing-T formation, Monroe ran for 502 yards.

Walker, who also started at defensive back, intercepted two passes, both of which led to Monroe scores.

Unable to pose any threat in the second half, the Tornadoes got 80 yards rushing in 11 carries from Jason Young, who scored on a 68-yard pass play from Welser Maltez in the second quarter.

Monroe, which led, 28-14, at halftime, scored three times on runs of 48 yards or better.

Garcia scored on runs of 48, one, 90, 27 and 16 yards.

Walker scored on an 86-yard run in the second quarter to give Monroe a commanding 28-7 lead.

Monroe's Liz Nemeth, also a soccer player, hit five of six extra-point attempts in her first football game.
