September 14, 1997|STEVE SPRINGER

DODGERS' HIDEO NOMO

(13-11, 4.30 ERA)

vs.

ASTROS' CHRIS HOLT

(8-10, 3.45 ERA)

Astrodome, 11:30 a.m.

TV--Channel 5. Radio--KABC (790), KWKW (1330).

* Update--If ever there was a spot for Hideo Nomo to regain the form that made him a major league sensation as a rookie, this may be it. "We need a good-pitched game. Everybody knows that," Manager Bill Russell said. He hasn't been getting them out of Nomo, who acknowledged earlier this week that he has no idea what his problem is. There is no question that he has a problem. In his last start, he gave up three home runs in the first three inning against Florida and was gone after four. Before that, he lasted 5 1/3 innings against the Texas Rangers. In those two starts, Nomo gave up 10 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings. Having lost all four games played in the Astrodome this season, the Dodgers are seeking to avoid being swept in Houston for the first time since the Astros came into existence in 1962 as the Houston Colt .45s.
