(8-9, 5.19 ERA)

vs.

RANGERS'

RICK HELLING

(2-2, 3.77 ERA)

The Ballpark in Arlington, 5:30 p.m.

TV--Channel 9. Radio--KTZN (710).

* Update--He didn't have four hits, as did Jim Edmonds, or hit a home run, as did Edmonds and Jack Howell, but Tony Phillips brought a much-needed spark to the leadoff role Friday night, walking in the first inning, singling and scoring the Angels' first run in the fifth, and advancing with an eighth-inning bunt two runners who eventually scored. Garret Anderson and Gary DiSarcina and Dave Hollins each added two hits in the Angels' 16-hit attack, the most hits the Angels have had in a game since June 30. Springer looks to end a seven-game winless streak--the knuckleballer is 0-4 with a 4.94 ERA since his last win Aug. 14.
