El Segundo 42, Laguna Beach 0--Bobby Gaines' three touchdown receptions sparked host El Segundo. Teammate Scipio Stubbs added two rushing scores.

Overmatched in size and experience, Laguna Beach (0-2) fell behind, 7-0, when Stubbs capped a five-play, 62-yard drive on an eight-yard touchdown run with 6 minutes 5 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Eagles made the score 14-0 two minutes later thanks to Rayshon Brown's interception of a Morgan Reynolds' pass on El Segundo's 40. One play later, Gaines outjumped an Artist defender on a pass from Derek Ernest en route to a 60-yard touchdown.

Gaines and Ernest teamed up again in the second quarter for scoring passes of seven and 12 yards, to build El Segundo's lead to 28-0 at the half. For the game, Ernest completed 10 of 14 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns, all to Gaines, who caught a total of four passes for 82 yards.

Stubbs gave El Segundo a 35-0 lead in the third on a seven-yard draw up the middle. Three plays later, El Segundo (2-0) capped its scoring to 42-0, when defender Tim Duerr ran back a deflected Reynolds pass 45 yards.

Laguna Beach's Reynolds finished 15 for 25 for 127 yards and two interceptions. The Artists' leading receiver was Travis Loidolt, with seven catches for 52 yards.
