Clinton to Name Seth Waxman as Solicitor General

September 21, 1997| Associated Press

WASHINGTON — President Clinton plans to nominate Seth P. Waxman to fill the job of solicitor general at the Justice Department, the White House said Friday.

Waxman has been deputy solicitor general since October 1996 and has served as acting solicitor general since Sept. 1, when former Acting Solicitor General Walter Dellinger returned to college teaching.

The solicitor general helps the attorney general in his or her duties and represents the interests of the United States before the Supreme Court.
