Kruseman Wins Phoenix Sprint Car Event

Cory Kruseman of Ventura won the 20-lap Sprint Car Racing Assn. main event Friday night at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix.

Rip Williams of Yorba Linda finished second and Verne Sweeney of Lomita was third.

SCRA points leader Ron Shuman of Tempe, Ariz.--who is retiring from Sprint Car competition at the close of the season--finished fourth.

Kruseman is fourth in the standings with 1,475 points. Shuman has 1,579, Richard Griffin of Silver City, N.M., is second with 1,574 and Williams is third with 1,531.


Calabasas Country Club will host the Meals on Wheels Golf Marathon on Sept. 29.

All proceeds will benefit the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers nearly 100,000 hot and cold meals a year to the elderly, ill or persons otherwise restricted to their homes.

Participants will pay a $150 entry and gather pledges from friends, family and co-workers. Joe Regalbuto, co-star of CBS-TV's "Murphy Brown" and PGA Tour player Mac O'Grady are scheduled to play.
