State Funds Sought for Freeway, Rail Projects

September 23, 1997|DAVID HALDANE

The Orange County Transportation Authority Monday approved a list of projects to be submitted for $187 million in state funding over the next seven years.

"This fills a funding gap," OCTA spokesman John Standiford said.

The largest project on the list is the proposed $106-million improvement of the Costa Mesa Freeway between the Garden Grove and Riverside freeways. The plan is to add carpool lanes as well as improve interchanges.

Other proposed expenditures include $53 million to improve the San Diego Freeway interchange with the Corona del Mar freeway; $24 million to build additional track and buy cars for the MetroLink commuter rail line; and $4 million to build a soundwall along the I-5 Freeway in San Clemente.
