An autopsy Tuesday confirmed that a 15-year-old Oxnard boy died of a gunshot wound to the head after being shot during a party last weekend in Camarillo.

Hugo Meza was attending a going-away party on Peoples Avenue when a fight broke out at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday after someone knocked over a lighting fixture belonging to a disc jockey hired to provide music.

Several people tried to break up the fight, and in the ensuing melee shots were fired from as many as two handguns, according to Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Bill Montijo of the major crimes bureau.

Meza underwent surgery at St. John's Regional Medical Center and remained in the intensive care unit until his death at 1:20 p.m. Monday.

A second man, Jose Espinosa, 18, of Camarillo, was shot in the left leg, treated at a local hospital and released, Montijo said.

Disc jockey David Munoz, 34, and assistant Luis Ruiz, 30, both of Oxnard, are being held in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities said.

Bail for each is $250,000.
