City Plans to Make Repairs at 8 Railroad Crossings

September 27, 1997|RUSS LOAR

Plans to repair eight railroad crossings are moving forward to alleviate what city officials describe as potentially hazardous traffic conditions caused by deteriorating roadway.

The city may have to pay as much as $114,000 to buy sections of concrete for the repairs. The property on five of the eight railroad crossings is owned by Union Pacific Railroad Co., which is demanding that the city pay for the cost of the materials.

The Orange County Transportation Authority owns two crossings, which are in better condition than the others, City Manager Terry Matz said. Caltrans has jurisdiction over the remaining crossing.

Matz said the city will seek funding help from the transportation agencies.
