Burbank Nets Victory Over Hart

Ben Martin, Eugene Shin and Chris Lau went undefeated in singles play for Burbank High in a 16-2 victory over Hart in a Foothill League boys' tennis match Thursday at Burbank.

It was the first time Burbank, the 10-time defending league champion, swept Hart in singles.

The Bulldogs (8-3, 2-0 in league play) are 98-2 over the past six seasons.

In other boys' tennis matches:

Calabasas 14, Moorpark 4--Braden Aftergood won his three matches at No. 1 singles and the Coyotes won a Frontier League opener at Calabasas.

Ben Noblett and Marcel Janey won all three of their matches at No. 2 doubles for the Coyotes (8-3, 1-0).

Taft 6, Chatsworth 1--Twins Farhad and Farshid Hajimirzaee helped the Toreadors (5-0 in conference play) sweep four singles matches in the Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.

Farhad Hajimirzaee won the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, and Farshid took the No. 2 match, 6-3, 6-1.

San Fernando 5, Birmingham 2--William Ramos, Joe Robles and Steve Chavez won the Nos. 1-3 singles matches for the Tigers (4-4, 1-4) in the Northwest Valley Conference match at Birmingham.

It was San Fernando's first victory over Birmingham (0-8, 0-5) in at least 25 years, according to Tiger Coach Park Cockerill.

North Hollywood 6, Reseda 1--Four matchups went three sets and four required tiebreakers in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda (3-5, 2-2).

North Hollywood's Jason Potell defeated Arvin Suri at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.


Chaminade 96, Marymount 73--Kristine Ross won four events for the Eagles in a nonleague victory at the Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center.

Ross was part of winning relay teams in the 200-meter medley and 400 freestyle.

She won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.


Highland 421, Quartz Hill 447, Palmdale 447, Littlerock 492, Lancaster 510, Antelope Valley 565--Jason Broome of Highland and Chris Shannon of Palmdale each shot a three-over-par 75 in a Golden League tournament at Crystalaire Country Club in Llano.

The Bulldogs lead the league standings with 24 points.

Quartz Hill is in second place with 18.5 points and Palmdale is third with 17.5.

Valencia 416, L.A. Baptist 426--Ron Upgraft shot a seven-over-par 78 for the Vikings in a nonleague match at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore.

Montclair Prep 229, Cathedral 268--Brian Whorton shot an even-par 37 and two teammates had 38 for the Mounties (9-2, 4-2) in a Prep League victory at Harding Golf Course in Griffith Park.

Nordhoff 391, Saugus 428, Moorpark 430--Tommy Hajduk shot a three-over par 74 for the Rangers (11-2) in a nonleague victory at Elkins Ranch Golf Course.


Providence d. Yeshiva, 15-6, 15-0, 15-7--John Mitchell had nine kills for Providence (4-3, 2-0) in a Liberty League match at Murphy High.

Murphy d. Bell-Jeff, 15-12, 15-12, 15-12--Shawn Doyle had 11 kills and six blocks for the Guards (0-6, 0-6) in a Santa Fe League loss to Murphy at Bell-Jeff.
