Football Game Will Benefit 4 Firefighters' Families

April 04, 1998

Firefighters from Los Angeles and New York City will square off today in a game of tackle football to raise money for the families of the four firefighters who were killed on the job last month.

The four fatalities were the first for the Los Angeles Fire Department in 14 years.

Capt. Joseph Dupee was killed battling a fire March 8, and rescue team members Michael Butler, Eric Reiner and Michael McComb were killed when their helicopter crashed in Griffith Park while transporting an 11-year-old girl, who also died.

They left four widows and nine children. One of the women is pregnant with her first child.

Proceeds from the game will go to the Los Angeles Fire Department's Widows and Orphans Fund.

The game starts at 2 p.m. at Santa Monica City College, 1900 Pico Blvd. General admission is $5; children under 12 are admitted free.
