Construction Starts on Technology Center

April 04, 1998|DEBRA CANO

Officials announced the beginning of construction Friday on the $30-million Anaheim Technology Center, slated to open in late 1999 to help the city replace jobs lost through defense-industry cutbacks.

In a related action, the City Council Tuesday will consider approving a manufacturing complex on a portion of the former Rockwell International site.

Kilroy Realty Corp. of El Segundo and Koll Real Estate Group of Newport Beach worked together to develop the 590,000-square-foot complex for high technology industries.

Last year, the city received a $1.3-million federal grant to pay for two new streets and other infrastructure improvements for the project. In addition, the city will use a $100,000 grant from the California Trade and Commerce Agency for infrastructure.

Anaheim officials said the technology center will create 1,650 high-tech jobs with an annual payroll of $65 million.

The City Council meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 765-5166.
