L.A.-Ex

April 05, 1998

The question March 22: A new poll shows that a majority of San Fernando Valley voters support seceding from L.A. What other parts of the city should seek their independence, and what should they be called?

Westchester and environs are the most logical choice. After all, they'd have the most appropriate name--L.A.-Ex.

Emmett Raitt, Irvine

*

East Los Angeles should seek its independence and be called New Los Angeles (going back to the Wild West days).

Raymond L. Bates, Marina del Rey

*

The people living in the apartment complexes around Melrose should secede and call themselves SAG Scale Plus Ten or Free if You'll Feed Us.

Emmanuel Rustia, Chino Hills

*

Carve out the meager portion of L.A. served by the Red Line subway. Call this new city Bradley's Folly.

Robert Peoples, Brentwood

*

Secessionists' elite: Bel Airly Hills; Bratwood; Less Feliz; and Canal Alonia (for 'waterwayed" Venice). The not-so-elite: L.A.Xchester; Marred Vista; and West of L.A.

Vals in favor of secession, Phase 2: Ourzana; Reseceda; ForSherThisTimeMan Oaks. A two-time secession-veteran with second thoughts: Bornagencino.
