LANCASTER-- The seventh annual California Poppy Festival on April 18-19 will include tours of the California Poppy Reserve, arts and crafts vendors, food booths, wildflower artwork, music, a children's carnival and a flower and garden market. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Lancaster City Park. RED BLUFF-- The 77th annual Red Bluff Round-Up--April 17-19--is one of the West's largest rodeos with a roundup parade April 18 at 10 a.m., western contests and dances, antique shows, a chili cook-off, bareback competitions and wild horse races, pro saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling and team roping. Rodeo start times: 4:30 p.m. April 17, 1:30 p.m. April 18-19. Seats $6-$13. (530) 527-1000.

DUNSMUIR--Celebrate the opening day of trout season at the Dunsmuir River Festival, April 24-26, with speakers, slide shows, angling clinics, art shows, river ecology displays and walks, fly-tying clinics, entertainment and more. Free. (530) 235-2012.

TEMECULA--A kaleidoscope of colorful hot-air balloons will take to the skies during the Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival, April 24-26, which also includes wine tastings, a French country food market, music, arts and crafts and children's entertainment. Balloon glow, April 24, 4-9 p.m., $10 per carload. Festival hours 6 a.m.-9 p.m. April 25, 6 a.m.-5 p.m. April 26. Admission $15 for adults on April 25, $13 on April 26. SAN LUIS OBISPO--Mama Mia! The seventh annual I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, April 25-26, will cover the streets with vibrant works of art in the Italian style dating back to the 16th century.
