Seizure May Have Led to 4-Car Crash

April 07, 1998|REGINA HONG

A Moorpark woman whose car careened across the center median on California 118 and caused a four-car crash may have had an epileptic seizure just before the accident, police officials said Monday.

Authorities said eight people were injured in the 12:35 p.m. crash Sunday. Jeanette Everson, 35, was eastbound on the 118 in Moorpark when her Mazda swerved across the median into oncoming traffic.

"They think the lady had a seizure, but they are going to confirm it," said Moorpark sheriff's spokesman Kori Martinelli on Monday.

A nursing supervisor at Simi Valley Hospital said Everson was in good condition Monday. Her car collided with a westbound Ford Thunderbird. A Ford Mustang and a van also became involved in the crash.

Oxnard resident John Cummings, 48, who drove the Thunderbird, and Moorpark resident Joyce Baratta, 46, who was driving the Mustang, were both released Sunday from Simi Valley Hospital after they were treated for minor to moderate injuries.

Moorpark resident Daniel Castillo, 33, and his four children, aged 2 to 10, were riding in the van. They were treated for minor injuries and released from Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.
