Small Faces

April 12, 1998

Taking their time to follow-up an acclaimed 1995 debut album, the members of Elastica have told Geffen Records that they're now planning to submit a new collection in June, for likely fall release. Meanwhile, singer-guitarist Donna Matthews will be seen in "Velvet Goldmine," the film set in the '70s glam-rock world, in a role loosely based on Suzi Quatro. She has recorded the New York Dolls' "Personality Crisis" for the soundtrack, backed by Teenage Fanclub. . . .

Bruce Hornsby, readying for his role in the Furthur Festival joining former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Phil Lesh in an ensemble being called the Other Ones, has finished his own next album, a two-CD set titled "Spirit Trail." It will be in stores in July, around the time of the tour. . . .

A new Cowboy Junkies album, titled "Miles From Our Home," is due in June, with the Canadian group signing up for a portion of this summer's Lilith Fair tour. The album was produced by John Leckie (XTC, Stone Roses) and includes a song, "Blue Guitar," which incorporates some lyrics by Townes Van Zandt in a tribute to the folk singer, who died last year. . . .

Lords of Acid and Digital Orgasm mastermind Praga Khan has a solo album, "Pragamatic," due June 2, with the Belgian electronic music artist planning a summer tour. Included on the album is a new version of "Injected With the Poison," his anti-drug club hit written after some people at a concert were made ill after unknowingly ingesting illegal Ecstasy. . . .

With its song "Torn" now an international hit for Natalie Imbruglia, the band Ednaswap is in the studio working on a new album, due in July. . . . David Cassidy, now starring in Vegas' "EFX" show, has turned to his Partridge Family past, remaking three of the '70s TV group's songs--including the hit "I Think I Love You"--for a new album, "Old Trick, New Dog." The collection, on his own Slamajama label, will be sold via his Web site (http://www.davidcassidy.com) starting today and in stores May 12.
