SOAR's Impact to Be Discussed

April 23, 1998|REGINA HONG

Moorpark council members Chris Evans and Debbie Teasley plan to meet today with open-space advocates pushing for a local initiative that would keep the city from expanding into surrounding farmland.

The 3 p.m. meeting at the Community Center, 700 Moorpark Ave., will be the first of three on the so-called Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources measure, Evans said.

The two sides will discuss the impacts of the SOAR initiative, which could be on the ballot as early as November if backers collect enough signatures.

After learning more about the details of the measure, Evans said, he and Teasley will recommend one of several options to the city: support the local initiative, work with the open-space activists to create an amended version, create a separate city initiative or take no action at all.

The dates of the next two meetings have not been announced.
