A Motion on the Floor

April 23, 1998

It's intimidating enough for most folks to step onto a dance floor under any circumstances. Imagine doing it with championship dancers waiting to take your place. No sweat, said supporters of the Fullerton Library Foundation who attended Shall We Dance?, a fund-raising dinner-dance Sunday in Fullerton. Some in the crowd, which numbered 210, got in the swing with help from the Balboa Brass.

Supporters danced away, until Elizabeth Knoll (a past U.S. National Professional Ballroom champion and an eight-time international grand champion) and Dennis Lyle (a former Fred Astaire national champion and owner of the Imperial Dance Academy in Buena Park) took the spotlight as the night's entertainment.

The gala made more than $40,000. All of that will go to the Foundation's campaign to raise $550,000 to enlarge and furnish the Childrens Library as part of a planned $1.2-million expansion of the Fullerton Public Library.

With the dinner-dance proceeds, the total so far raised for the children's space is more than $200,000, said Dick Foster, who chaired the event with his wife, Cynthia.
