SMALL FACES: With Joe Strummer having final approval, a tribute album to his old band the Clash is being readied for Aug. 25 release by Epic Records. The most intriguing entry is a collaboration by rappers Ice Cube and Mack 10 with hard-rock band Korn on "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" Others on board include No Doubt, 311, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, Moby with Heather Nova, the Indigo Girls and Silverchair. The project will in part benefit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles High Risk Youth Program. . . .

Los Lobos, celebrating its 25th year, is working on a new album while ironing out final negotiations for a new record deal. The album is not expected to be released this year, though, with the band set to tour with Santana this summer. . . .

Fresh from its Gap ads and now down to a trio with the departure of keyboardist Vivian Trimble, Luscious Jackson will soon begin recording its third album. The group has also done "I've Got a Crush on You," with ex-That Dog member Petra Haden on violin, for the upcoming George Gershwin tribute album "Red Hot + Rhapsody," benefiting AIDS-related endeavors. . . .

English techno-folkie Beth Orton is set to start on the follow-up to her acclaimed 1997 debut album "Trailer Park" with producer Youth. No release date has been set. . . . Before jumping to a deal with Virgin founder Richard Branson's new V2 label, English electronicats Underworld will release a home video compilation May 19, with the unwieldy title "Videos 1993-1997: Footwear Repair by Craftsman at Competitive Prices," through TVT Records. . . .*
