Grant 4, Sylmar 1--Cole James (2-1) allowed one unearned run on six hits, struck out three and walked four to help Grant (7-13, 6-5) upset Sylmar (16-4, 10-1) in an East Valley League game.

James was aided by two double plays.

Danny Schrader, Michael Marble and Jon Spielvogel had doubles for Grant.

Ivan Hernandez (6-2) struck out 11 and walked five for Sylmar, ranked No. 8 in the region by The Times.

Van Nuys 11, Reseda 6--Jose Avila had four hits, scored four times and drove in a run for Van Nuys (10-10-1, 5-4-1) in the Mid-Valley League game at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park.

Angel Barajas had three hits, one RBI and scored twice for Van Nuys, which trailed, 4-0, after one inning. Teammate Junior Ayala was three for three with three RBIs and scored once.

Monroe 17, Canoga Park 0--Victor Banuelos (4-5) threw a four-hitter, struck out seven and walked two for Monroe (10-11-1, 5-6) in a Mid-Valley League game at Lanark Park.

The Vikings scored 14 runs in the seventh inning.

Westlake 12, Camarillo 1--Joey Cuppari had four hits including a run-scoring double and scored three runs in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo (16-4, 5-2).

Kevin Howard had four hits for the Westlake (10-7, 4-3), including a run-scoring double and a run-scoring single.

Camarillo is ranked No. 5 by The Times.

Jeff Boyle (4-2) scattered five hits in six innings for Westlake, yielding a home run to Matt Foster.
