* Like the recent winds, 3rd District Supervisor Todd Spitzer blew into office amid high expectations from many of us who live out in the canyons.
How disappointing that he now appears to be just another good old boy when it comes to land use ("Supervisors OK Project Near Two Monasteries," Dec. 9).
Spitzer, along with two other supervisors, voted to approve the Saddleback Meadows project despite evidence that such action will expose taxpayers to liability from ancient landslides that lie beneath the surface and despite nearby critical wildlife corridors.
Spitzer's vote also negates the Trabuco Specific Plan Review Board. It is irrelevant since the supervisors and Orange County Planning Commission routinely override the board's recommendations.
Spitzer has also struck in Modjeska Canyon. Rather than allow Modjeska Canyon residents to elect their own Modjeska home advisory representatives, Spitzer supports representatives appointed by his predecessor. One of these men represents us from his residence in Newport Beach.
Despite impressive environmental posturing by local politicians, it's business as usual in Orange County when developers want to replace countryside with asphalt and concrete.
