"Recovery Yoga: A Practical Guide for Chronically Ill, Injured, and Post-Operative People" By Sam Dworkis, Three Rivers Press, $22, 224 pages

January 05, 1998|SHARI ROAN

What distinguishes this guide from many other books on yoga is its focus on how yoga can benefit people with movement-impairing injuries or disorders. Oftentimes, even the easiest exercises are too difficult for people with physical limitations. This book helps those people take a first step in resuming physical activity. The exercises that are described, featured in easy-to-comprehend illustrations, can be done by people who are bedridden or postoperative or who use a wheelchair. The author is a veteran yoga practitioner who is able to explain concepts in simple terms.
