Pupils Preparing for Skills Testing

January 06, 1998|JOHN CANALIS

The Fountain Valley School District is preparing students for a new statewide test that measures skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social sciences.

Members of the district's Board of Trustees will review faculty progress in preparing students for the Stanford Achievement Test, known as SAT-9, when they meet Thursday.

"It's really a report on what the Fountain Valley School District is doing now and until we take the test at the end of March [and] the beginning of April," Supt. Marc Ecker said.

Children in second to eighth grades at all Fountain Valley elementary and middle schools will take the test.

Teachers are coaching students with sample questions, exam information provided by the state and various test-taking techniques.

Every school in California is expected to administer the test.

The school board meets at 7:15 p.m. in the Education Center, 17210 Oak St. Information: (714) 843-3255.
