School Board Begins Process to Find New Business Czar

January 09, 1998

During a closed-door meeting Thursday, called after its business czar abruptly resigned, the Los Angeles Board of Education agreed to launch another outside search for a replacement if necessary.

Hugh Jones stepped down Monday after two months on the job, citing personal reasons, although district employees and others suggested that he had become increasingly frustrated with the reality of the job.

School board members said Supt. Ruben Zacarias has offered to review the other two finalists brought forward by a citizens committee along with Jones before starting a new search.

Board President Julie Korenstein said Zacarias and the board are committed to trying to find an outside businessperson for the job.
