Spotlight: Boeing's C-17 May Benefit in Budget Request

January 15, 1998

Boeing Co.'s C-17 transport plane, produced in Long Beach, would be a big winner under the fiscal 1999 budget request President Clinton will send to Congress next month, two Pentagon officials familiar with the plan told Bloomberg News. The Air Force will request about $2.6 billion to buy 13 aircraft. Congress last year approved $1.9 billion for nine aircraft. Boeing has delivered 36 of the 120 C-17s the Air Force has already ordered. Another winner would be Lockheed Martin Corp.'s F-22 fighter jet, produced in Georgia.
