Candid Camera

Getting the scoop on the film biz isn't easy, but she got the whole Oscar picture.

January 15, 1998

Privileged to tread where few are allowed, Lara Jo Regan has compiled her photographs of the last four years of Academy Awards, rehearsals and shows, into an exhibition called "Behind the Scenes at the Oscars," on view starting today at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The work, commissioned by Premiere magazine, shows stars just being human, such as the shot of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman trying to get past a vigilant guard at a backstage door, above, and the business of covering the Oscars in the photo of Roger Ebert and other reporters, left. Regan, top, is the first photographer allowed shoot candid photos at the Oscars in 20 years. Regan talks about her unprecedented access to the traditionally discreet spectacle, Page 8.
