Bike Rider Severely Injured in Collision

OXNARD — A 63-year-old Oxnard man suffered serious injury Thursday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Channel Islands Boulevard.

Guillermo Gelaio Lorenzo was riding his bike east near Statham Boulevard at 6:48 a.m. when a truck driven by Joseph Jesus Hunt, 23, of Oxnard struck him from behind, said Officer Joe Kaniewski of the Oxnard Police Department.

Lorenzo was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at St. John's Regional Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

The accident is under investigation.
