Loans Available for Victims of Flooding

January 21, 1998

Damage from the flooding and mudslides of Dec. 6 has prompted the governor's office of emergency services to declare Orange County a disaster area.

The designation makes low-interest, Small Business Administration loans available to homeowners, renters and businesses whose property was damaged. Small businesses also may apply for loans of up to $1.5 million if they have been financially hurt by the disaster. The interest rates range from 4% to 8%.

Applications for physical damage may be filed until March 13 and for economic injury until Oct. 12.

SBA officers will accept applications and answer questions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Leisure World Maintenance Activity Room, 23081 Via Campo Verde, Building D, Laguna Hills, and Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave., Costa Mesa. They will be at the Wells Fargo Bank Building, 260 Ocean Ave., 2nd floor, in Laguna Beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.
