Residents and Officers Will Meet for Cop Talk

January 23, 1998|CATHY WERBLIN

A new Police Department program known as Cop Talk is designed to get officers and residents gabbing.

Officers Robert Campbell and John Gatine will be on hand Feb. 18 to speak individually with residents about police-related topics, including gangs and traffic. The talk will be at the Sizzler restaurant, 13265 Harbor Blvd., from 6 to 9 p.m.

"The idea behind the program is to let people talk to us in a more comfortable, less structured environment," Campbell said. "Oftentimes the only contact the community has with police officers is when we're in their neighborhood on a call."

Because Campbell is bilingual, Spanish-speaking residents also are encouraged to attend. Future Cop Talk sessions are expected to include Vietnamese- and Korean-speaking officers.
