Granada Hills Takes Down Cleveland at Finish

Nick Tarditti's three-point play with four seconds left gave Granada Hills a 68-67 upset of Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference boys' basketball game Friday night at Cleveland.

The Highlanders (8-10, 2-2 in conference play) used a box-and-one defense to hold Cleveland guard Kent Dennis to seven points.

Anselm Brown scored 20 points for Granada Hills.

Brian Smith scored 21 points and Kenny Mason added 18 for Cleveland (12-7, 2-2), the fifth-ranked team in The Times' regional poll.

In other Northwest Valley Conference games:

Taft 70, Birmingham 59--Brandyn Fisher had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Amir Bar-Netzer added 21 points and five steals for the Toreadors (10-4, 3-1) at Taft.

Emmanuel Evans scored 25 for the Braves (12-6, 2-2).

San Fernando 71, Kennedy 57--Devin Montgomery had 17 points, five steals and four assists, and Mike Page had 16 points for the Tigers (17-2, 4-0) at Kennedy.

Sun Kim had 19 points for the Golden Cougars (7-9, 0-3).

Chatsworth 81, El Camino Real 62--Montae McFarland had 16 points and Will Ruffin scored 11 for the Chancellors (11-7, 2-2) at El Camino Real.

Demond Daniels had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Conquistadores (6-9, 1-3).


North Hollywood 79, Reseda 60--Dejon Lee scored 24 points, Keron Wilkerson added 19 and Jonathan Hicks had 16 for the Huskies (12-7, 3-1) at Reseda.

Victor Koopongsakorn scored 12 points for Reseda (6-12, 1-3) and Engelberth Alvarez had 10.

Monroe 71, Van Nuys 68--Victor Hall scored 20 points, Damien Ritter added 19 and Eric Bush had 18 for the Vikings (4-12, 1-3) at Van Nuys.

Jesse Keane scored 17 points and Abe Morabi had 14 for Van Nuys (1-16, 0-4).

Canoga Park 79, Sylmar 77--Jammie Harris scored 39 points, including a 12-foot jump shot with six second remaining for the Hunters (6-12, 3-1) at Canoga Park.

T.K. Reed missed a six-foot shot for Sylmar (9-9, 2-2) as time expired.

Harris had 13 rebounds and blocked five shots.


Eagle Rock 59, Verdugo Hills 46--Joe Moore scored 18 points, and Joseph Dural had 15 points and 15 rebounds but the Dons (9-10, 5-3) fell at Eagle Rock.


Santa Paula 82, Calabasas 64--The Cardinals moved closer to becoming the first team other than Santa Clara to win the outright league boys' title in the past 14 seasons at Calabasas.

David Herrera scored 21 points, Joey Riccio had 17 points and eight assists, and Moses Gasio added 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals (16-4, 5-0).

Huton Ghorishi scored 21 points for the Coyotes (10-10, 3-2).

Moorpark 70, Nordhoff 51--Todd Tomlinson scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half, and the Musketeers rolled to a 37-14 lead after two quarters at Nordhoff.

Byron Donahue had 14 points and eight rebounds for Moorpark (15-6, 3-2).


Simi Valley 82, Camarillo 61--Branduinn Fullove scored 25 points for the Pioneers at Simi Valley.

Brett Michel added 19 points for Simi Valley (18-3, 7-1).

Jeff Stuteville scored 24 points for Camarillo (6-11, 0-8).

Agoura 65, Thousand Oaks 63--Bas Van Rhee, who scored 20 points, missed two free throws with 24 seconds left and Kelonie Dixon missed a three-point shot at the buzzer, allowing the Chargers to escape at Thousand Oaks.

Marcus Helfman scored 21 points for Agoura (10-8, 4-4).

Jason Furino had 17 points and Tim Chevalier had 12 for Thousand Oaks (6-13, 3-5).

Channel Islands 89, Royal 59--Franklyn McKesson scored 22 points, Paul Blair had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Raiders (15-3, 6-2), who led, 47-28, at halftime. Dusty Cruz scored 15 for Royal (6-13, 2-6).


Oxnard 57, Ventura 43--Jeff Fouchey scored 23 points for the Yellowjackets (12-6, 6-2) at Ventura.

Damian Tafoya and Jacob Rogers each scored 10 points for Oxnard. Jeff Staniland had 14 points for Ventura (5-14, 2-6).


Crescenta Valley 83, Hoover 75--Alex Tima scored eight of his 25 points in a 28-point fourth quarter for the Falcons at Crescenta Valley.

Mark Hull scored 35 points for Hoover.


St. Francis 76, Alemany 57--Richard Fields had 36 points and 13 assists for the Golden Knights (8-7, 2-2) at Alemany.


Temple City 69, La Canada 50--Matt Moore scored 41 points, but the sixth-ranked Spartans (17-5, 4-1) lost at Temple City.
