--60.3 million swim.

--49.8 million bicycle.

--20.6 million run.

--11.5 million do step aerobics.

* Memberships in health, racquet and sports clubs have grown steadily in the last two years.

* Still, 58% of adults reported that they exercise sporadically or not at all.

* It is estimated that 24% to 30% of adults engage in no leisure-time physical activity.

* Sedentary lifestyles have been linked with obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers.

* One study estimates that health-care costs could be cut by $56 billion a year if just 10% of adults began a regular walking program.
