Fitness on Call

January 26, 1998

Trainer Julia Swinton leads a Corefit class at Zenith Insurance Co. in Woodland Hills. Norm Baker, vice president of human resources at Zenith, brought the training group in as part of the company's continuing effort to encourage fitness. The program has multiple benefits, Baker said. "Traditional barriers of title and level and even gender get broken down. We're all equals in the class. That spills out into the work floor." Baker himself has benefited physically, losing 20 pounds since the national worker's compensation insurance carrier brought Corefit in two months ago. About 30 employees will begin a second exercise session next month. West Hills-based Corefit tailors its courses to fit the company, using a variety of exercise techniques, including Swiss balls, weights and medicine balls.
