Drug-Sniffing Dog May Be School Visitor

January 27, 1998|LIZ SEYMOUR

Students at Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School may one day be surprised by a drug-sniffing dog, if the Laguna Beach Unified School District approves the new policy today at its meeting.

Since September, two high school students have been caught with alcohol or marijuana, Assistant Principal Tim Wilson said.

Also on the school board's agenda are two continuing concerns: the impact of development along Newport Coast on school enrollment and Supt. Reed Montgomery's seven-week absence from the district.

A closed-session meeting about Montgomery will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a public meeting at 7:30 in the school district offices, 550 Blumont St.
