Red Cross Offering CPR, Safety Classes

January 27, 1998|ROBERT GAMMON

The Ventura County chapter of the American Red Cross is offering classes in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and community safety at two locations next month.

The classes will be presented at the Red Cross' offices in west county at 2355 Portola Road in Ventura, and in the eastern part of the county at 1919 Williams St., No. 200, in Simi Valley.

"It's important that people learn to save their families' lives and the lives of others," said Carol Becker, the Red Cross' workplace education director. "You never know when something is going to happen."

The first-aid classes, which include a section on CPR, will last seven hours, and will be offered over one or two days. The two-day course in Ventura is set for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 4 and 11, and the one-day courses are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9, 14, 20, 24 and 28. Two one-day courses, also from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will be offered in Simi Valley on Feb. 3 and 21.

The Red Cross also is presenting a nine-hour class--Community First Aid and Safety, its most comprehensive first-aid and CPR class for the general public.

In Ventura, the one-day sessions will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 7, 11 and 21, and a two-day course will be held Feb. 18 and 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. In Simi Valley, there will be a one-day course on Feb 14 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a two-day course on Feb. 5 and 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Red Cross will also be offering classes in February for rescue professionals. For more information, call 339-2234 in the west county, and 582-8630 in the east county.
